Blackberg Group is seeking a Communications Manager who is experienced in planning, implementing, and evaluating federal communications programs. This consultant will be responsible for developing a cohesive strategy for regional and national communications campaigns as well as evaluating existing outreach programs.
The Communications Manager will be part of a larger communications program supporting innovation within VA’s health care delivery system. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, collaborative, and creative with strong written and oral communication skills. Daily responsibilities will include quality assurance of team products, communication planning, project planning, and crafting individual communications artifacts.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate integrated communications strategies that span social media, media relations, email campaigns, and related communications strategies.
- Create, revise, and implement communications material that delivers consistent key messages to target audiences through appropriate channels that are consistent with branding, messaging, and digital (social media) strategies.
- Effectively and professionally engage with all project stakeholders and explain complex systems in plain language.
- Mentor, coach, and professionally develop more junior team members.
- Maintain strong quality assurance and control across all team deliverables.
- Prepare progress reports and client briefings.
- Prepare quality client deliverables.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years’ experience in a strategic communications role developing program-level plans and project-specific artifacts. Minimum of two years in client-facing role and one year with direct report responsibility.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, or a relevant field.
- Demonstrated experience consulting clientele on communications programming, implementation, and evaluations.
- Develop materials such as communications plans, leadership briefings, fact sheets, website content, and email blasts that are high quality and free of errors.
- Demonstrated writing, editing, proofreading, and formatting of client-ready materials.
- Strong consulting and interpersonal skills; able to work in a team environment.
- Strong presentation skills and ability to work with senior leadership.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project).
- Outstanding writing skills, and experience developing and editing high-quality written materials, including client educational materials, fact sheets, infographics, posters, and report in plain language.
Preferred Qualifications
- Federal and/or health care consulting experience.
- Experience in federal proposal development or business development.
- Familiarity with requirements of the Federal Government Printing Office Style Manual and/or Section 508 compliance.
- Innate customer service mentality and experience working directly with clients.
- Ability to solve problems quickly and creatively.
